• Establish the New York State Public Bank: a state-owned bank that holds all public deposits and puts them to work for New Yorkers — funding small businesses, affordable housing, infrastructure, and municipal projects at low interest rates. Modeled on the Bank of North Dakota, which has operated since 1919 and returned hundreds of millions in dividends to the state.
• Outlaw predatory banking practices: extreme limits on overdraft fees, credit card interest, and all forms of predatory usury. Predatory abuse will no longer be tolerated by New York. These vampiric companies will no longer feed off of our struggles and toil.
• Limits on exorbitant storage facility fees.
• Subscription services may only charge New York consumers for months in which the service is actively used. We will implement tools that will monitor and mitigate unauthorized auto-payments. (Amazon, Netflix, Walmart, etc.) You don’t use it for the month, you don’t get charged for it.
• Right to Repair: New York will bolster and expand on our sparse right to repair laws — phones, cars, computers, appliances — will all have the ability to be repaired by third-party technicians at competitive prices.
• Harsh penalties for casinos that defraud their customers, paired with new consumer protection laws. The house will not always win. The house will have a new set of rules.
• All NYS companies and companies doing business in New York, must have a human being easily reachable by phone. No more endless phone mazes and AI that refuses to allow you to get “past the gate”.
• Investigate and reform the state lottery system and how appropriated funds are possibly being misused, as well as deep dive into all the possible misappropriations of New York State’s funds.
